Music Review: Ice Cream by BabyTron ft YN Jay & Riff Raff

Michigan rapper BabyTron, known for his unique style of blending witty lyrics and clever punchlines with unconventional instrumentals, gained recognition with his 2019 viral track "Jesus Shuttlesworth." This song featured BabyTron's humorous flow over a nostalgic synth-pop beat. He further established his versatility by rapping over a range of eclectic beats, as demonstrated in his 2021 mixtape "Bin Reaper 2" and the 2022 album "Megatron."

His subsequent albums, "Bin Reaper 3: Old Testament" and "Bin Reaper 3: New Testament", achieved notable success, reaching the top half of the Billboard 200.

Born James Johnson in 2000 in Michigan, BabyTron formed the rap group ShittyBoyz with TrDee and StanWill during his teenage years. Initially part of Detroit's late-2010s rap scene, BabyTron's solo work later focused on rapid flows and humorously sharp lyrics. His solo career took off in 2019 with the release of the "Bin Reaper" mixtape, featuring artists like Lil Yachty and BandGang Javar. His distinct style and beat choices soon attracted attention, leading to a prolific output over the next few years, including mixtapes like "Sleeve Nash," "Back to the Future," "Luka Troncic," and "Bin Reaper 2." In 2022, "Megatron" was released, featuring collaborations with GTP Daidoe, DaBoii, and Glockboyz. His albums "Bin Reaper 3: Old Testament" and "New Testament" charted impressively on the Billboard 200.

On his album "Megatron 2," BabyTron released the track "Ice Cream," featuring a notable lineup of artists including Certified Trapper, Soulja Boy, YN Jay, and Riff Raff on October 27, 2023.

This collaboration brought together a diverse mix of styles and talents, adding a raw dimension to the album. A notable bar from the song “Ridin' with a baby AK, this a micro Drac' Nigga got some bullshit jewelry, throw your ice away Young nigga died for no reason, threw his life away (Nah)” The song narrates the artist's experiences and the challenges growing up in their hood. The song is catchy and is something you can add to the playlist.
