Oprah Winfrey has come a long way since “The Oprah Winfrey Show” towards her own cable channel “OWN.” At the 2018 Golden Globe Awards, the 63-year-old actress and TV show host earns the Cecil B. DeMille Award.
During her victory speech, Winfrey reflected on her memories and a story about Recy Taylor, who fought for justice after being gang-raped. “It is not lost on me that, at this moment, some little girl is watching as I become the first Black woman to be given the same award,” said Winfrey “It is an honor, and it is a privilege to share the evening with all of them.” Winfrey is the first black woman to earn the award.
The speech received a standing ovation as the former TV Show host gets recognized for her long-time work in opening the door to more celebrities. It was another accomplishment to one of the entertainments most inspiring figures. Here is her statement from the 2018 Golden Globe Awards below:
