The moment that all Shondaland fans have been waiting for is here. Scandal and How To Get Away With Murder (HTGAWM) are crosssing over.
Deadline broke the story Wednesday at noon by releasing an interview with Peter Norwalk, the creator of HTGAWM. In the interview, Norwalk spoke of how they came to the decision to crossover their shows.
“At the beginning of the season, my writers and I were planning out Viola [Davis’] entire arc and something in her story organically came up that was very appropriate for Scandal,” Pete Nowalk told Deadline, “When I went to Shonda, she heard it. I said, we don’t have to do it, Viola’s arc doesn’t need this, but it’s possible that their stories could cross really organically. She actually pulled up a clip of something from Scandal and their side of the story coalesced perfectly. So it was one of those serendipitous things where we both realized it was good for both characters, and it almost felt like we had been planning it since last season.”
An hour later, Kerry Washington, Olivia Pope in Scandal, posted a picture on Instagram of herself in the courtroom hallway from HTGAWM.
Within the same hour, Viola Davis; Annalise Keating from HTGAWM, also posted a picture of her in the White House set from Scandal on her Instagram.
Shonda Rhimes revealed how far into the process they are by posting a close up of a page from the script. The page depicts the first meeting between the two gladiators.
It is not clear when this episode will happen just yet but it should be soon seeing as the table read was on Wednesday, which was also teased by Washington on Instagram.
The fans of both of these shows are extremely excited to see two of the most popular black female characters right now work together for the first time. Seeing as this is the farewell season for Scandal, this is perfect timing.
Both Scandal and How To Get Away With Murder return on January 18.
