Leading ladies Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling grace Time Magazine’s cover to promote “A Wrinkle in Time”. The Disney movie is scheduled to hit theaters on March 9, 2018, and is based on the adaptation of Madeleine L’Engle’s 1963 book about a girl’s fantastic quest across the universe to save her father.
Aside from the all-star cast, Oscar nominated director Ava DuVernay’s makes for a highly anticipated film. Ava has been a trailblazer for the representation of people of color with successful projects like Oscar-nominated 13th, Selma and Queen Sugar on Oprah Winfrey Network. In the Time Magazine article, Reese Witherspoon gushed on Ava wanting a diverse cast saying “I’ve never seen somebody demand inclusiveness like that. It’s just a different perspective, and you don’t get that unless we start to have powerful filmmakers of different colors, different genders. You’re just gonna have the same 20 dudes making the same 20 movies over and over and over again.”
This remake classic offers a kick-ass cast but most importantly the slow efforts towards Hollywood becoming more multicultured.
