From the hit “Momma said knock you out” to rolling up one jeans leg in the summertime, to the way to lick your lips LL Cool J has been a trendsetter for a long long time. The 90’s babies know what I’m talking about. He set the bar establishing himself as one of the greatest staples in hip-hop, yet the legend is still not finished. Recently the phenomenon completed the Business of Entertainment Media & Sports program at the well-known, Harvard University.
Last night, the 49-year-old, LL Cool J received the Kennedy Center Honors award. For those who don’t know the Kennedy Center Honor is America’s highest achievement for any performer in the field of performing arts. The annual celebration was held Sunday night in Washington, D.C. For eight consecutive years President Barack Obama attended, but this year, Donald Trump opted out of attending this ceremony as to not be a “distraction” to the honorees as told by Kennedy Center President, Deborah Rutter. In receiving this award LL Cool J became the first rapper to ever receive the award. That is a HUGE step for Hip-Hop and the culture. This reception could open the floodgates for many other deserving artists. After the ceremony, LL took to Instagram to show his gratitude.

This one is for those who came before me and those who followed me. We were sent to this planet to love and inspire one another. Manifest our dreams and make them a reality. I hope you’re inspired by me because I’m absolutely Inspired by you. Mic check 1212 Let’s ride!! 🎤 #KCHonors #StateDepartmentDinner #hiphop
