The 2017 BET Hip Hop Awards Recap

The 2017 BET Hip Hop Awards Show was one for the books. The iconic event was on fire from start to finish. When it comes to BET and their award shows, it’s proven that nobody does it better.

At the top of the show, host DJ Khaled hit the stage performing his 2007 hit “I’m So Hood” remix along with Trick Daddy, Plies, Rick Ross, and T-Pain. Things progressed with the presentation of the “Hustler of The Year” award, which of course went to Cardi B.

Performers of the night included Migos, Playboi Carti, Gucci Mane, and Yo Gotti.

The Hip Hop Awards would be nothing without the cyphers. After each commercial break artist like 6lack, Tee Grizzley, Zoey Dollaz, Little Simz, Cozz, J.I.D, Kodi Shane, and more spit a fresh 16 with DJ Premier on the 1s and 2s.

The “I Am Hip Hop” honoree was presented to a 305 legend, Uncle Luke. On stage, he claimed himself the pioneer of Hip Hop in the South. Prior to last night, Uncle Luke had not been honored by anyone ever. After 35 years in the business of getting arrested and banned from venues because of his secular music — you would think he would. Uncle Luke broke down barriers for an artist to be able to freely express themselves. As the recipient on the “I Am Legend” awards, his contribution to Hip Hop will not go unnoticed.

At the latter part of the night, everyone waited with high anticipation for Eminem. And boy, it was worth the wait. Eminem aimed straight for Donald Trump’s head. His solo cypher spoke on the social injustice, racism and blatant inequality in this country. He hit every target when it came to the sitting President of the free world, causing social media to explode.

Check out a few clips from last night.
