If you’re a New Yorker it sucks that Melo had to go. If you’re a Melo fan, you should be ecstatic that Melo is in a better position to compete for a missing championship.
In a recent conversation with SiriusXM Radio. Carmelo Anthony explained that the whole deal was kind of last minute. “A deal was done with Houston early, then for some reason, whatever happened behind the scenes, it didn’t go through…” The Knicks organization was in talks with Houston to trade the 10x NBA All-star. A third team was required to complete the deal but as you can tell, that never happened.
The front office asked Melo to consider adding the Thunder to his list. With the trade going through, Melo said: “My motivation is just different now. I kind of lost that motivation a little bit in New York. But I was still able to go out there and play and get through it”. “…From an individual standpoint I feel born again, I feel rebirth, a different type of energy within myself, around the guys, around the organization, around the city. You can feel it.” This trade has definitely shaken up the NBA making for an interesting start to the season since the two teams open up against one another Oct. 19th.
The trade seems to be good for all parties involved. Melo now gets to be on a championship contending team once again. Melo leaving gives the Knicks and Porzingis opportunity to grow and restructure the team. A bitter sweet moment to see that man in a hoodie leaving New York to go to Oklahoma. Farewell Melo, looking forward to seeing him do his thing out there.
