The 2017 Primetime Emmy Awards created monumental history.

The 2017 Primetime Emmy Awards aired Sunday, September 17 live in Los Angeles, CA. Celebrity actors arrived dressed to the nines to fill up the seats of what would be a great night. After years of getting robbed, black excellence took a stance this year.

Donald Glover took home the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series as well as Lead Director for a Comedy Series for the FX show, Atlanta. I mean I know we’ve only been in America since the 1600s but this is the first African American to do so.

In addition to the excellence actress, and writer Lena Waithe received the award for Best Writing for a Comedy Series, for the Master of None, “Thanksgiving” episode. She is the first African-American woman to win for comedy writing.

“I want to thank my mother for inspiring the story and allowing me to share it with the world. I love you ma,” Waithe said accepting her award. ” Thank you Aziz for pushing me to co-write this bro, and now we’re standing here. I love you forever. Thank you Alan for creating this show like Master of None, where we can share stories like this.”
