The 2017 FYF Festival may have taken the number one spot this year. Sorry Cochella. Yes! Recaps of this three-day festival are enough to make anyone who was not in attendance jealous. First of all, the legendary Missy Elliot performed an unforgettable set – her first in over ten years. The queen who is known for her iconic ensembles performed a hit like “Pass That Dutch,” “Get Ur Freak On,” and “Supa Dupa Fly.” Missy even brought out Solange and Beyonce which is enough to make anyone snatch their wig off.

Soul Sista Solange took to the stage as well. The artist did not miss a beat with her eclectic dance moves and aesthetics. Solange performed hits from the past in addition to her most prominent album, A Seat At The Table – including the Grammy-Award winning track “Cranes In The Sky.”

Hip-Hop’s finest and my personal favorite group, A Tribe Called Quest blazed the stage performing classics such as “Can I Kick It” and “Bonita Applebaum.” The group’s most important member Phife Dawg was honored throughout their electrifying display. At the end of their set, Q-Tip announced that it would be Tribe’s last performance in Los Angeles. “This is our final performance here in L.A. as Tribe, obviously because Phife Dawg, our anchor has been called to another mission.” The news is obviously devastating to hip hop fans all over the world. However Phife’s voice and legacy will never die.

Frank Ocean headlines night two of the FYF Festival. During his set, Ocean brought out actor Brad Pitt and serenaded him with the Jackson 5 classic, “Never Can Say Goodbye.” Pitt expressed his gratitude for Ocean in his May cover for GQ magazine. “I find this young man so special. Talk about getting to the raw truth. He’s painfully honest. He’s very, very special. I can’t find a bad one.”

The FYF Festival ranged from July 21-23 in Los Angeles, CA. Several artist of just about ever genre were in attendance. If Beyonce is making an apperance, I’m already saving my coins for next year.
