Seems like biopic’s are the new wave for films these days, and we love it. These films give a deep insight to the artist you may have thought you knew as well as educating the new generation on what was then.
The legendary Miami group 2 Live Crew is reportedly getting a film based on their popping career in the 80s/90s. According to The Hollywood Reporter Lionsgate will back the film. The production is partnering with Temple Hill to curate Craig Williams memoir, Book of Luke: My Fight for Truth, Justice, and Liberty City on the big screen.
Apparently the film will focus on the group’s manager/hype man Luther Campbell. During their reign Campbell caught a copyright lawsuit that made its way to the Supreme Court. The ruling turned in Campbell’s favor which established music sampling as a form of parody.
Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey who’ve worked on the Twilight franchise and the most recent Power Rangers film, will be producing the project.
Lionsgate is running with the biopic wave, All Eyez on Me was under their belt, with future projects including a Steve McQueen documentary and a series on USA titled Unsolved.
Lets hope they get this right.
