Rap star Nicki Minaj captured her Twitter followers this past weekend. She proposed to pay a percentage of the loans for straight-A college students. As of Sunday, a small quantity of Twitter users confirmed that they’d been sent mass amounts of money to put toward their tuition from Minaj.
The heavy flow of inquiries for payments began Saturday night after one brave enthusiast retorted to Minaj’s tweets about her #RegretInYourTears dispute. The fanatic, Twitter user @cjbydesign, asked Minaj to redistribute money she’d use to fly fans to the Billboard Music Awards to the fan’s student loan payments instead.
“Show me straight A’s that I can verify [with your] school and I’ll pay it,” Minaj tweeted. “Who wants to join THAT contest?! Dead serious. [Should] I set it up?”
“And YES! All countries are included. Ya muva makes enough money to fly members of #TheKingdom out from ANY COUNTRY IN THE WORLD!!!!”
Soon after, fan requests for assistance paying their tuition began overflowing her timeline. Minaj countered more than 20 fans who wanted aid, and TMZ reported Sunday that it was able to confirm at least a few of the students had accepted payments of between $500-800.
Minaj tweeted early Sunday that she was shutting down her casual scholarship program for the moment but insisted that she would present the offer again in “a month or two.”
“Ok u guys. It’s been fun. Let me make those payments tmrw then see if I have any money leftI’ll do some more in a month or 2.”
The after hours generosity began after Minaj kicked off her #RegretInYourTears challenge, which urged fans to conceive their own music video for the artist’s single for a opportunity to meet Minaj in person. Finalists of the challenge will have the chance to attend the Billboard Music Awards with Minaj in Vegas May 21.
