Miley Cyrus Recieves Backlash for Appropriating Hip Hop Culture

Oh Miley, apparently it was too much heat in the kitchen. The former Disney star is trying to sweep her hip-hop phase under the rug and clean up her image.

In 2013 Miley Cyrus teamed up with notable producer Mike WiLL Made-It to create “23,” a hip-hop joint that featured Wiz Khalif and Juicy J. On Cyrus’s 2013 album, Bangerz she included a number of rappers from Big Sean to Future. Now that she is gearing towards the release of her new album, she has a newfound look on the genre that folks are not too pleased with.

In conversation with John Norris at Billboard, Miley described why she is getting back to her roots and backing away from hip hop. Miley claims the misogynistic lyrics are not her. Her new single ‘Malibu’ drops next week.

When asked if folk singer Melanie Safka [whom Cyrus performed with in 2015] had any influence, she stated,

“She did, and I grew up with her. But I also love that new Kendrick [Lamar] song [“Humble”]: “Show me somethin’ natural like ass with some stretch marks.” I love that because it’s not “Come sit on my dick, suck on my cock,” she implies. “I can’t listen to that anymore. That’s what pushed me out of the hip-hop scene a little. It was too much Lamborghini, got my Rolex, got a girl on my cock — I am so not that.”

Of course with those comments, Twitter did not let her off the hook that easy. Many questions why after a few years spent appropriating black culture is she all of a sudden trying to leave it alone. Must be nice.

Is Miley Cyrus canceled?
